Parts Of East River Under Tornado Watch

National Weather Service

A Tornado Watch is in effect for parts of northeastern, north central, and east central South Dakota.

The watch expires at midnight central tonight.

Ryan Vipond is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Aberdeen. He says this evening's storms may produce hail and damaging winds.

"As far as severe weather goes, looks like large hail up to tennis ball size is possible, along with some isolated scattered wind gusts over 70 miles per hour. And of course, with the tornado watch comes the possibility of isolated tornadoes, as well," Vipond says.

Vipond says cities in the watch area include Aberdeen, Pierre, Mitchell, and Mobridge. The watch also stretches into portions of North Dakota and Western Minnesota.
